Hey!

First of all, thank you for choosing me to be your family photographer. I believe that family portraits are important. Your people matter deeply to you and together we will create images that captures the connection and love that each of you share. I want you to remember how it felt to kiss your partner, hold you baby, and laugh with the people you love.

I want this to be laidback and fun for everyone, and I think we can totally do that. Session usually start slow so everyone can relax and we can get to know each other. There are a few things that you can do to prepare for the shoot to insure that everything goes smoothly.

First, please share this letter with others who are getting photographed. Typically, but not exclusively, Mom is the one booking the session. Share this with your partner. We can all come together and have an easy going time.
I will be sending you another questionnaire. This one is for you to give me as much information about you and your loved ones as possible. I really want to get to know the whole family before your session. You know them best, and I can’t wait to read about them.
Keep the session the big event of the day. Having a big activity earlier in the day could easily wear the family out, especially with young children.
To add on to that, try to get all the naps in and make sure everyone is fed, or a least a decent snack before if you are planning to go out to dinner after our session. I know several of my families do like to go eat afterwards. Naps and food I’m sure are a no brainer, but sometimes the day can get away from us.
Let the kids know that you will be having pictures taken. Let them know that your friend Nicole is excited to see them, and wants to spend some time taking pictures for your family. I will make sure to introduce myself to all of the children before we begin the session. This could be extremely helpful if you have a child that is a little more timid or shy. You can show them a picture of me from my website if you think that could be helpful.
As you can tell from my portfolio, I’m not “everyone look at the camera” type of photographer. I actually prefer no one looking at the camera, especially the adults. I will try to get the “grandma shot”, but to me that’s not where the magic is. I think you will find that you will love the pictures if you give yourself permission to move and show affection to the people you love. It will be a more authentic representation of who you are as a family!
After the session is over, I will post a sneak peek of your session on my Facebook page if you want them. Feel free to like and share the post with your friends and family. The post is usually posted with in 72 hours of the shoot.
Your entire gallery will be delivered to you via email within four weeks from the shoot. I guarantee 40 pictures. You will have access to the gallery for four weeks. You can share the gallery with friends and family. Anyone can order prints from the gallery if they wish. The whole gallery is downloadable. You will have printing rights if you do not wish to print from the gallery. I do suggest finding a quality printer if you choose not to order from the gallery, because it can alter the quality of the images.
After the whole experience, I hope you are satisfied and feel compelled to leave a review. You may also share your images on social media. I hope you will, and if you do I would appreciated at tag. Your words are valuable, not only for others to find me, but also for me to make sure that I am truly giving my families an experience that they are completely happy with.

My Dad’s Death Changed How I Value Pictures

The value of pictures grow with time. After my dad passed away, I no longer took pictures for only myself. I took pictures for my kids and their potential kids. I had Maeve about six months after my dad passed away, and two weeks after having her I picked up my camera to begin learning how to use it. (But that’s another story.)

Not every picture has to be a portrait.

But I want my kids to have pictures if they need them, like I do, to grieve. I want them to remember what it felt like to be a kid in my arms, and how deeply loved they are. I want them to see their childhood from a new perspective as an adult, and to share their childhood with their children.

Pictures do that.
