Why Choose an In-Home Newborn Session

Newborns really are my favorite stage. To me one of the best feelings is bring home a new addition to our family. Each baby feels like the perfect fit. Even though it is so wonderful and kind of surreal, I don’t want to down play that there are some challenges in those early weeks. Mom is healing. Baby is adjust to the outside world. Siblings are thrown off. Dad might be taking on more responsibilities while mom heals. Everyone is trying to find the new normal, because life will never be the old normal, ya know? Choosing an in-home newborn session will get you the images you will cherish without stress.

The prep is easier

Getting everyone ready and out the door is less challenging. You have no where to be, by a certain time. Mom is probably moving slower, siblings might be less cooperative, and there is an extra person to get ready. Since the photographer is coming to you, the getting ready process can be more laidback. If there are last minute diaper changes, or the baby is hungry, you won’t have the pressure of getting to a studio by a certain time. The photographer arrives while you are taking care of the people you love. Plus, everyone’s wardrobe can be much more casual. Less is more for the in home setting. Stay comfortable.

Healthier

Speaking of not leaving your home, you are reducing the risk anyone getting sick, especially the new little baby. Covid-19 has flipped our world upside-down, and by hiring an in home photographer you are limiting exposure to your little newborn. It may even have you apprehensive to even have a photoshoot all together, and that’s okay. If you are on the fence, ask your photographer their protocol for newborn sessions.

I’m not accusing any photographer of not washing blankets and wiping down surfaces (most if not all probably do), but if you are in your home, you have more control over the environment. There are fewer opportunities for anyone catching anything by being in your home than going to and from a studio.

Easier on the siblings

If there are any siblings, especially toddlers, they get bored easily. Of course parents will want pictures of their whole family, but once those are taken the toddler will probably loose interest. In a studio, you would need to keep them entertained and away from equipment. That can be an exhausting task. If the session is in your home, the toddle can come and go as they please. They can go and play with their toys. The beauty of in home the session can organically unfold.

Easier on baby

Unfortunately sometimes babies are a little fussy and don’t want to leave Mom’s arms. In-home sessions are perfect if that’s the case. In-home sessions babies remain close. In fact, the session could easily be done with the baby being held the whole time if need be. The session continues right through feedings and diaper changes. Those beautiful moments are worth documenting, too.

In-home sessions have a lot to offer. I promise, you don’t need a home that’s a centerfold of an interior decorating magazine. It’s the first place your baby will call home. All that is needed is a window and the love surrounding that new little baby (or babies, lol) of yours.
