FAQ For Family Sessions

Not every photographer is the same…nor should they be. Neither are the people that photographers work with. When looking for a photographer you probably have some questions about what you can expect from them if they are hired. Here is a list of frequently asked questions I receive from people looking to book a family session.

What kind of photographer are you?

The industry would likely classify me as a lifestyle family and newborn photographer. I provide direction to make space for real moments with you and your loved ones. My goal as an artist is to capture a series of photographs that represent you and your family as a whole collection.

How do I receive my pictures?

An online gallery will be emailed to you within four weeks from your session. From the online gallery, you will be able to download all of your images. A zip file will be sent to your email with a print release. Prints and products are available for purchase from the gallery if you want.

Do you use props?

No. I do not bring anything to session. You and your family are what I find interesting and beautiful, and I don’t want to distract from that with props. That said, if you have a memento you would like in a few photos or an activity you would like to do with each other like picking flowers or playing with play-dough like you see below, that can be discussed.

Do you edit in black and white?

Every image is delivered in color and in black and white.

What if my kids don’t cooperate?

I’ve got you!!! It is not an exaggeration when I say, I have never had to reschedule because kids wouldn’t cooperate. I understand you are investing in your family and the best way to get the authentic pictures you want is by letting them be themselves.. My approach to family photography is about authenticity. I’m not looking for perfectly posed pictures. Movement….not looking at the camera…being playful is all encouraged. Do your best to not stress, soak in the little humans in front of you, and it will be fine!

Do you offer mini sessions?

Every year I have a Tree Farm Mini Event in November. In the spring (late March/early April) I host the School Portrait Minis. Those on my email list always have first access to the schedule. I have done seasonal minis with great success. They are special events and only a few times a year. My style and approach lends itself to longer session and a collection of photographs. That said, occasionally exceptions can be made depending on availability and time of year. Check out this post to see if you a mini session or a full session is best for you.

Can you hold a date?

The way to lock in your date is by signing a contract and paying a retainer. My calendar is sent to all inquiries and are booked on a first come first serve basis.

How do I know you’re the right photographer for me?

Ya know, I may not be! I genuinely believe there is a photographer for everyone, but a photographer is not right for everyone. Check out THIS BLOG for tips to find the right photographer for you.

Can I bring my pet?

Yes. Please know you are responsible for your pet. You also know what they can handle an hour long family session and how distracted they can be. I do not consider myself a pet whisperer, so I won’t guarantee anything, but they are apart of your family and I’m willing to try if you think they can handle the session.

What about locations?

In my case, family sessions are typically held outdoors and newborn sessions are held in the home, but I’ve had family sessions in home and newborn session outside too. I do have some location samples I can share if you are wanting help with an outdoor session. Epic locations are not important to me…good light and the family in front of me and their connection are what captivate me. I love shooting at homes because it’s an added layer of nostalgia that I think you’ll appreciate in years down the road.

What happens if it rains?

I keep my eye on the weather leading up to all session. If the weather looks iffy I will send you a text or email. Depending on the forecast, we may shift the time or location to work around the weather. If Mother Nature is against us, we will reschedule for a time and date that works for us both.

How much does it cost?

You can find all of the session info and pricing HERE.

How do I book?

Message me HERE. You will receive a response via email. Once we are both on the same page about your needs, you will receive an intake form, contract, and an invoice….again via email. Once those documents are filled out signed, and the retainer is paid you are on the books! It can all be done from your phone!
